Call Recordings Based on Area Code
You can avoid recording calls based on a few different criteria. This can be done in Settings > System within Orum under “Call Recording”. After the call recording has been toggled on by an Orum Admin, the following selections can be made to account for two-party consent states:
- Only record the rep's audio for all area codes: This enables one-sided recording for ALL calls. Which only records the Orum user’s side of the call.
- Only record the rep’s audio in these area codes: This is where a user would enable one-sided recording only for particular area codes (most commonly, area codes in two-party states).
- Never record calls in these codes: This setting can be used to completely disable call recordings for specific area codes.
** Important Notes:
- If no selections are made below the main "enable call recording" toggle, both sides of all calls will be recorded by Orum.
- Call Recording settings apply to U.S. and Canada such that the user can restrict certain U.S. and Canada area codes/provinces- In addition to the below, special caution should be given to British Columbia and Manitoba.
We’ve listed area codes of states that have two-party consent laws below. At the bottom of this article is a list of these codes that you can copy-paste into the “Restricted Area Codes” section:

Prior to the engineering team updating these feature settings, here are the applicable details that pertained to call recording settings. These are documented here for archive/legacy purposes.
- No recording restrictions. Record both sides of the call for all calls: This setting records both the Orum user and the prospect that they are connected with.
- Only record the rep's audio for all calls: This setting only records the Orum user side when connected to a prospect.
- Do not record calls to the area codes below: This setting does not record calls for the area codes that an Orum Admin designates in the box. **This setting can be used for two-party consent configurations**
- Only record the rep's audio for the area codes below: This setting only records the Orum user side when connected to a prospect whose number is in one of the area codes designated in the box. **For one-sided recording, users can add two-party consent area codes if desired**
