Automatically Open LinkedIn and CRMs For Prospects

Updated 10 days ago

Subject: This knowledge article covers how to activate and use Orum's automated LinkedIn and CRM link opening feature, plus how to troubleshoot LinkedIn profile behavior.

How do I enable and disable this feature?

You can enable or disable automatic LinkedIn and CRM opening in your personal settings in Orum.

If you prefer to view a prospect’s LinkedIn profile directly inside the connect screen, you can also use the Chrome extension.

Tip: If you want the CRM or LinkedIn page to open in a separate browser window instead of the same window as Orum, wait for the first tab to open automatically, then right-click that tab and move it to a new window.

Note: Users can also download the Chrome Extension, if they prefer to have the prospects LinkedIn profile open directly in the connect screen.

Why isn't the LinkedIn pop-up taking me directly to the prospect's profile?

If you do not have the Linkedin URL field field out, the Linkedin Pop-up will instead initiate a search for that prospect.

In order to be taken directly to the prospect's Linkedin profile, you need the prospect's Linkedin URL filled out in the Linkedin URL field. For example, here is where to input the URL in Outreach:

Which LinkedIn URL should I use in Orum?

For the best experience, use a standard public LinkedIn profile URL in this format:

This is the recommended format for both:

  • automatically opening LinkedIn in a browser tab

  • displaying the LinkedIn profile in Orum when using the Chrome extension

Which LinkedIn URLs should I avoid?

Some LinkedIn links may not work as expected in Orum. Common examples include:

  • Sales Navigator links, such as https://www.linkedin.com/sales/...

  • LinkedIn search-result pages

  • company pages instead of person-profile pages

  • shortened or campaign-style LinkedIn smart links

  • blank or incomplete LinkedIn URL fields

If one of these is used, Orum may not be able to open the exact profile.

What happens if the wrong URL is used?

Depending on the URL type, you may see one of these behaviors:

  • Orum opens a LinkedIn search instead of the person’s exact profile

  • Orum opens LinkedIn, but not on the correct person

  • Orum cannot display the profile in the embedded LinkedIn panel

  • a Chrome extension user may see an error saying the profile cannot be displayed

How do I troubleshoot this?

If LinkedIn is not opening the expected profile:

  1. Copy the value from the LinkedIn field on the prospect record.

  2. Check that it begins with https://www.linkedin.com/in/.

  3. Open the link directly in your browser and confirm it resolves to the correct person.

  4. If the link is a Sales Navigator URL, search page, company page, smart link, or other non-profile link, replace it with the standard public profile URL.

  5. Refresh the prospect data in the source system and re-sync or reload the record in Orum if needed.

  6. If you use the Chrome extension, confirm you are logged into LinkedIn in the same browser and that the profile is not private.

What if the LinkedIn URL looks correct but still does not appear in Orum?

If the LinkedIn URL is correct in your CRM or SEP but still does not show in Orum, the issue may be caused by field mapping or sync configuration.

In that case, please work with your CRM or SEP admin to confirm that:

  • the correct LinkedIn field is mapped into the field Orum reads

  • the LinkedIn field is populated in the source system syncing into Orum

  • the latest value has synced successfully

Why am I being redirected from Orum to LinkedIn or my CRM in the same tab?

This usually happens when you navigated to Orum.com from a tab that was previously used as the LinkedIn or CRM pop-up.

You can solve this issue by:

  1. closing your current Orum tab

  2. opening a fresh browser tab

  3. logging back into Orum

  4. restarting your dialing session

My pop-ups still aren't working. What else should I try?

Sometimes browser permissions need to be updated to allow pop-ups and redirects.

To check this:

  1. Click the settings icon in your browser’s URL bar.
